IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE IGNITION KEY SWITCH IT SHOULD

REPLACEMENT OF THIS SWITCH ASSEMBLY IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SAY THE LEAST.

YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE A LOT OF COMPONENTS AS WELL AS THE RADIO AND ALL
THIS WHILE THE BATTERY HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED FIRST.
THE IGNITION KEY SWITCH ASSEMBLE WILL ALSO HAVE TO BE RECODED IF THE
COMPLETE ASSEMBLY IS REPLACED.
TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE
BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE
SERVICE.
LEAVE IT THERE WITH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT
WILL BE A LOT BETTER THAN JUST REPLACING PART AFTER PART AND NOT DOING ANY
GOOD.

Update- Does that mean that the steering column isn't locked?

Is the ignition switch locked up or the ignition lock cylinder?

is off the steering wheel will ''lock'' and may make the key very hard to
turn. If you turn the wheel in the direction the wheels are angled it
should allow you to turn the key.
